Right Start gradually prepares Children ages 3½ to 4½ years old for kindergarten and consolidates their English language skills. Because of the emphasis on active participation and the exploration of topics in depth, only children from our Hands On program (or from another English medium pre-school), or children who are native speakers of English can be admitted. All children will attend this program unaccompanied, either 3 or 5 days a week.

Children enjoy all their favourite activities from Hands On, plus new activities daily. The emphasis remains on 'learning through play' and it is usually during this year that children begin to form closer friendships with their peers and much more co-operative, imaginative play is evident.

Art projects and activities allow for further development of creative expression. They are prepared taking the needs of the individual child into account and become more challenging in terms of skills they require. Simple cookery and food preparation is included in the curriculum, as are simple science experiments. Pre-reading and writing skills are introduced and children are encouraged when they display an interest in letters and numbers. The addition of a classroom circle time later in the year helps to reinforce language development around a particular theme or topic. Singing and story-time are continued as daily activities.

Swimming is offered once a month, and twice for children attending the 5-day program.

Children attending the 5-day program are encouraged to visit the computer centre where they may work either individually or in pairs through a series of carefully selected software.

For children who must leave for formal schooling at the age of 4½, we offer a follow-on program, the Let's Learn English Playschool, two afternoons a week for 1½ hours.
